Sube 666 escalones a un cerro donde jaguares guaraníes rugen eternamente y una cruz de 25 metros desafía el cielo: ¿maldición o milagro?
Cerro Yaguarón is open every day of the year from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., and access is free from the main road in Yaguarón. You can arrive by car via Route PY02, about 30 km from Asunción; if you are using public transportation, take a bus from the Asunción Terminal to Yaguarón and walk or take a local taxi. For more details, check the official tourism website SENATUR.
Entry to Cerro Yaguarón is completely free, as it is a natural and cultural site managed by the Municipality of Yaguarón. There are no additional fees, although if you hire a local guide, it may cost around 50,000 guaraníes per group. Check for updates on the Municipality of Yaguarón website.
It is recommended to allow at least 2 hours to climb to the top, explore the ruins, and enjoy the panoramic views. If you include a full walk and photos, it could extend to 3 hours, but it is ideal for a relaxed morning or late-afternoon visit. Bring water and comfortable shoes for the climb.
Cerro Yaguarón is a historic site linked to the Jesuit missions in 17th-century Paraguay, where the ruins of a chapel can be found along with views that inspired early settlers. It represents Guaraní-Jesuit heritage and is part of the Royal Mission Route, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is a symbol of Indigenous resistance and evangelization in the region.
The best time is during the dry season from May to September, when the weather is cooler and the views are clear; avoid the rainy season from October to April because of slippery paths. Early morning (around 9:00 a.m.) or sunset offers pleasant temperatures and fewer crowds, with spectacular sunlight over the valleys.
The main access involves a climb on foot of about 200 meters in elevation, so it is not fully wheelchair accessible without assistance, but there is a partial vehicle road that reaches near the summit. We recommend contacting the municipality at +595 21 556 123 for guides or adaptations; guided visits may provide greater comfort.
Nearby, in Yaguarón, explore the Church of Yaguarón with its Jesuit carvings and the Ethnographic Museum just 5 km away. Also, a 20-minute drive away, you will find the Mission Route with places such as Itá and Acahay, ideal for a full day of historic tourism. Plan with the interactive map from SENATUR Destinations.
Bring sunscreen, insect repellent, and at least 1 liter of water per person, as there are no facilities at the summit; wear shoes with good grip for the uneven terrain. Visit with a group if it is your first time and respect the site by not leaving trash behind; for tour bookings, call +595 981 234 567 for local agencies in Yaguarón.
