Catedral gótica-románica del siglo XII, símbolo espiritual de Saint Malo, reconstruida tras incendios y guerras.
The cathedral is generally open from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, but hours vary depending on the season and religious celebrations. We recommend checking the latest schedule on its official website or calling +33 2 99 40 82 31. Entry is via Place Jean de Châtillon.
Entry to the cathedral is free, although donations for its upkeep are appreciated. There may be fees for specialized guided tours or specific cultural events.
A full visit takes between 45 minutes and 1.5 hours, depending on your interest in architectural details, historic tombs such as Jacques Cartier's, and the side chapels.
Built from the 12th century onward in Romanesque and Gothic styles, it was rebuilt after fires and wars. It has been listed as a Historic Monument since 1910 and is a symbol of the city's resilience, with its south tower serving as a lighthouse.
Avoid July and August. Spring or autumn mornings before 11:00 AM or late afternoons after 4:00 PM are best. Also avoid Sunday Mass times at 10:30 AM and 6:30 PM.
Accessibility is limited: there are steps at the main entrance and three internal levels without an elevator. An alternative entrance with a ramp is available on the north side; ask staff for assistance.
Less than 10 minutes away: the Saint-Malo ramparts, Saint-Malo Castle, and Grand Bé, where Chateaubriand is buried. On Place Jean de Châtillon you will find typical restaurants.
