For a relaxed visit including photos at the viewpoints and a short walk, allow between 45 minutes and an hour. If you plan to go down to the town of Bakar for a full tasting, I suggest setting aside at least 2 hours to enjoy it properly.

Bakarska Vodica is produced on dry-stone terraces called Takala, declared a protected cultural landscape and a monument to human effort. It is a unique sparkling wine created using traditional methods that has shaped the identity of this Croatian region for centuries.

Without a doubt, sunset offers spectacular golden light over the bay, perfect for photography. As for the season, September is ideal because it coincides with the grape harvest and you can see the tradition in full swing, while also enjoying milder weather.

You should keep in mind that the vineyards are laid out on steep terraces with many stone steps, which makes direct access difficult for people with reduced mobility. However, the viewpoints beside the main road are accessible and offer panoramic views without requiring physical effort.

Just a few minutes down the hill you will find Bakar’s old town, where highlights include the Frankopan Castle and the Turkish House. It is the perfect cultural addition to round off your excursion after seeing the vineyards.

Wear very comfortable sports shoes, as the terrain is uneven, and do not forget water if you are visiting in summer.
