Bich Dong Temple generally opens from 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. every day. To get there, the most common option is to rent a bicycle or motorbike in Tam Coc and enjoy the scenic ride of about 2 km. You can also take a taxi if you prefer more comfort.
Good news! Entry to Bich Dong Temple is free. However, keep in mind that there may be small charges for bicycle or motorbike parking nearby. It is a fantastic opportunity to explore without a direct cost.
To explore Bich Dong Temple, its pagodas, and the three caves (Hang Ca, Hang Giua, and Hang Ha) at a relaxed pace, I recommend setting aside at least 1.5 to 2 hours. The climb offers spectacular views, so take your time and enjoy it.
Bich Dong Temple is a complex of three pagodas (Ha, Trung, and Thuong) built in the 15th century on the slope of a limestone mountain, inside caves. Its name, meaning 'Jade Pagoda,' was given by a king in the 18th century. It is an important Buddhist center and a beautiful example of traditional Vietnamese architecture in harmony with nature. More information about its history can be found on Wikipedia.
The best time to visit Tam Coc, and therefore Bich Dong, is from March to May or from September to November, when the weather is more pleasant. To avoid the crowds, I suggest going early in the morning, just after opening, or late in the afternoon. Sunset from the upper pagoda is truly magical.
Unfortunately, Bich Dong Temple presents significant challenges for visitors with reduced mobility. Reaching the pagodas and caves requires climbing many steps and uneven paths. There are no ramps or elevators, so access may be very difficult or impossible for wheelchairs.
You are in the heart of Tam Coc. Very close by, you should not miss a boat ride on the Ngo Dong River through the Tam Coc caves. I also recommend visiting the ancient capital of Hoa Lu and the impressive Trang An Scenic Landscape Complex, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. For more ideas, visit Tripadvisor Ninh Binh.
A good tip is to wear comfortable walking shoes, as there are many steps. Do not forget your camera; the views are incredible, especially from the upper pagoda. Consider bringing water, especially on hot days. Most importantly, take your time to appreciate the serenity of the place and its natural and spiritual beauty. Enjoy every step.
