Sao Beach, or Bai Sao in Vietnamese, is a tropical paradise known for its white sands, crystal-clear waters, and lush palm trees on Phu Quoc Island.
Sao Beach is open 24 hours a day, as it is a public beach. You can get there by taxi, rental motorbike, or bus from Duong Dong (about 25 km, 40 minutes); use Google Maps for precise directions.
Access to Sao Beach is completely free, with no entrance fees. You will only pay for transportation, food, or activities such as kayaking in the surrounding area.
It is recommended to spend 2 to 3 hours enjoying the water, walking along the sand, and relaxing. If you combine it with snorkeling, extend your visit to half a day.
Sao Beach, whose name means 'star' in Vietnamese, is famous for its fine white sand, as soft as local pepper. It represents the natural beauty of Phu Quoc and has been a tourism icon since the 2000s, highlighting the preservation of its crystal-clear waters.
The best time is the dry season from November to April to avoid rain. Go early in the morning or at sunset for fewer crowds and calm waters.
The main access is via sandy paths, which can be challenging for wheelchairs, but there are flat areas near the parking lot. I recommend 4x4 taxis and checking with local hotels for assistance.
Nearby you will find Starfish Beach about 10 minutes away, Phu Quoc National Park, and the Hon Thom cable car. You can also explore pearl villages in An Thoi.
Bring sunscreen, water, a hat, and cash for local vendors; avoid weekends because of the crowds. Try fresh seafood at the beach shacks and rent a sun umbrella for 50,000 VND.
