El Museo Dak Lak en Buôn Ma Thuột preserva la rica herencia cultural de los pueblos étnicos de las Tierras Altas Centrales de Vietnam, con artefactos que cuentan historias milenarias de tradiciones y vida cotidiana.
Dak Lak Museum is open Tuesday to Sunday from 8:00 to 11:30 and from 13:30 to 17:00. It is closed on Mondays. It is located in central Buon Ma Thuot (12 Le Duan). You can get there by taxi or motorbike taxi from anywhere in the city. More details at Vietnam Tourism.
General admission costs 40,000 VND (about $1.60 USD). Children under 16 and students with ID pay 20,000 VND. Children under 6 enter free. No advance booking is required.
It is recommended to spend between 1.5 and 2 hours to fully explore the exhibitions. The museum has 3 floors with ethnographic and historical collections, as well as a section dedicated to local elephants.
It is the main guardian of the heritage of the 44 ethnic minorities of the Central Highlands, especially the Ede and Mnong. Its collections include gong musical instruments, traditional clothing, and ritual objects of great anthropological value.
The dry season (December to April) offers better weather to combine with other sites. Visit in the morning (8:30-10:00) to avoid tour groups. Avoid Vietnamese holidays such as Tet due to possible crowds.
It has access ramps and an elevator for all 3 floors. The restrooms are not adapted. Wheelchairs are available upon prior request (+84 262 3852 309). The surrounding grounds are flat.
Within less than 5 km you will find: the former Bao Dai Palace (2 km), Buon Ma Thuot Cathedral (1.5 km), and the Trung Nguyen coffee plantations (3 km). More options at Lonely Planet.
Wear comfortable shoes, allow an extra 30 minutes for the ethnic sculpture garden, and note that photography is allowed (without flash). Audio guides in English and French are available for an additional 70,000 VND. Nearby there are cafés serving some of the best coffee in Vietnam.
