Son Tra Watchtower on the Son Tra Peninsula is open daily from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM, although it is advisable to check for updates on Da Nang’s official tourism website. To get there, take a taxi or motorbike from central Da Nang, following the road through Son Tra; the trip takes about 30–45 minutes. If you rent a motorbike, be sure to wear a helmet in accordance with local traffic rules.
Admission to Son Tra Watchtower is free for all visitors, as it is part of the natural attractions of the Son Tra Peninsula. However, if you arrive by vehicle, there may be a small parking fee of around 20,000 VND (approx. USD 0.80). For more details, see the Da Nang tourism website.
It is recommended to allow at least 1–2 hours for the visit, including time to climb the tower, enjoy the panoramic views, and take photos. If you combine it with a short walk in the surrounding area, it could extend to 3 hours. It is a compact site, ideal for a quick stop on a Son Tra tour.
Son Tra Watchtower was built during the French colonial era and used during the Vietnam War to monitor the sea and coastal routes, symbolizing the region’s military history. Today, it represents Son Tra’s transition into an eco-tourism destination, highlighting its biodiversity and views of the South China Sea. Its preservation helps visitors understand Da Nang’s heritage.
The best time is during the dry season from February to May, when the weather is sunny and the views are clear; avoid the rainy season from September to December. Choose early morning (around 8:00 AM) to avoid the heat and crowds, or sunset for spectacular views of the sun setting over the sea.
The main access involves stairs and uneven paths, so it is not fully accessible for wheelchairs or people with reduced mobility; some walking is required. However, lower viewpoints are available from the parking area. We recommend contacting the Son Tra visitor center at +84 236 382 1117 for alternative options or assistance.
Nearby you will find Linh Ung Pagoda with its giant statue of the Goddess of Mercy, Guanyin, just 10 minutes away by motorbike, and Bai But Beach for relaxing. You can also explore the Son Tra Monkey Forest for wildlife sightings. To plan your visit, see the Vietnam tourism portal.
Bring insect repellent, water, and sunscreen, as the area is forested and sunny; wear comfortable shoes for the stairs. If you are traveling in a group, consider a guided tour from Da Nang for around 500,000 VND per person, which includes transportation. Respect nature by not leaving trash behind and do not feed the monkeys if you see them nearby.
