Donde las dunas rojas guardan secretos más antiguos que las pirámides
Hon Rom is a natural scenic area, so it is open 24 hours a day for independent visits. It is easy to reach by motorbike or taxi along the coastal road from central Mui Ne in about 15 to 20 minutes; you can see the exact route on Google Maps.
Access to the general area and the scenic viewpoints is completely free. However, if you want to enter private resort beaches or use parking and sun lounger services, you will need to pay a small local fee.
To enjoy the panoramic views and take a short walk, 1 hour is enough. If you plan to swim, explore the surroundings at a relaxed pace, or have a picnic on the beach, we recommend setting aside at least half a day.
The name means 'Straw Island' because in the dry season, the tall grass on the mountain turns yellow, making it look like a giant haystack from the sea. Historically, it has been a refuge of wild beauty that contrasts with the extremely arid landscape of the nearby dunes.
Sunrise and sunset offer spectacular light for photography and more pleasant temperatures. The best time to visit Mui Ne in general is from November to April, when the weather is dry and the skies are clear.
Accessibility is limited because of the rugged terrain, with sandy areas and uneven paths. While you can enjoy the views from a vehicle on the coastal road, getting down to the beach can be difficult for wheelchairs.
Its location is perfect for combining with the famous Red Sand Dunes, which are just a few minutes away. It is also often visited on the same day as Fairy Stream or the Mui Ne Fishing Village.
Always bring strong sun protection and water, as the area is very sunny and has little natural shade outside the resorts. Take the chance to try the fresh seafood sold by local vendors near the shore; it is an authentic and affordable experience.
