El Cristo que desafió guerras y comunistas con contrabando de agua bendita
The Christ the King Statue is usually open to the public from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM. To get there, you will need to climb a series of steps winding up the mountain. There is no direct transport to the top, so be prepared for a bit of a physical challenge!
Good news! Entry to the Christ the King Statue and access to its steps are completely free. It is a gift for the eyes and the spirit at no cost at all.
To fully enjoy the experience, including the climb, the panoramic views, and a closer look at the statue, we recommend setting aside between 1 and 2 hours. The time may vary depending on your pace and how long you want to spend admiring the scenery.
The Christ the King Statue was built between 1974 and 1993 and stands 32 meters tall, with a 4-meter pedestal. It is an important religious symbol for the Catholic community in Vietnam and offers impressive views over Vung Tau. You can even climb inside the statue to admire the landscape from its arms!
To avoid the intense heat and humidity, I suggest visiting early in the morning (before 9 AM) or later in the afternoon (after 3 PM). The dry season, from November to April, offers more pleasant weather. You will enjoy spectacular views without the blazing sun!
Unfortunately, the Christ the King Statue is not accessible for people with reduced mobility or wheelchair users, as access involves climbing a long staircase with many steps. There are no ramps or elevators available.
Absolutely! Right next to the statue, you can visit the Vung Tau Lighthouse for even more incredible views. I also recommend taking a walk along Front Beach or Back Beach to relax and enjoy the coastal atmosphere of Vung Tau after your climb.
Of course! Wear comfortable shoes for climbing the steps, bring plenty of water to stay hydrated, and take a hat or cap to protect yourself from the sun. Do not forget your camera to capture the stunning views. And if you are claustrophobic, keep in mind that access inside the statue's arms is via narrow staircases.
