No, access to Susúa State Forest is completely free. However, for special activities or large groups, it is recommended to contact the DRNA at 787-222-4144.
2 to 4 hours are recommended to walk its main trails such as the Camino de los Naranjos and to discover its natural areas. Times vary depending on your walking pace and the stops you make.
Created in 1935, it is one of the 20 state forests of Puerto Rico that protects endemic species such as the Puerto Rican red-tailed hawk (guaraguao) and vital water resources. Its name comes from the Taíno cacique Susúa who inhabited the area.
The dry season (December to April) is ideal because the trails are more accessible. Early morning hours are perfect for birdwatching and avoiding the intense heat.
Most of the trails have uneven terrain and steep slopes. We suggest contacting the DRNA at 787-222-4144 for information about accessibility in specific areas.
15 minutes away is Crash Boat Beach and the town of Añasco with its historic center. Also nearby is Mona Island (for organized excursions).
1) Bring water, insect repellent and closed-toe shoes 2) Use the AllTrails app for navigation 3) Respect the signage 4) Avoid walking alone on less-traveled trails 5) Do not leave trash behind.
