¿Sabías que esta iglesia ha desafiado huracanes furiosos y salido más fuerte? Descubre sus batallas épicas y secretos que solo los locales conocemos.
The church is open for visits from Monday to Saturday, 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM, and on Sundays for religious services. We recommend confirming the latest hours on its official Facebook page before your visit.
Admission is completely free. Voluntary donations are accepted for the upkeep of the church, which is one of the oldest in Puerto Rico, dating back to 1733.
We recommend setting aside 30 to 45 minutes to appreciate its Baroque architecture, historic bell tower, and interior details such as the hand-carved wooden high altar.
It is considered a jewel of Puerto Rico’s religious heritage. Built in 1733, it survived earthquakes and floods and played a key role in the Spanish colonial development of the island’s western region.
Visit early in the morning, before 11 AM, or later in the afternoon, after 3 PM, to avoid the heat. The liveliest time is during the patron saint festivities in June. Weekdays are less crowded.
The main entrance has steps. There is a side entrance with a ramp, but we recommend calling ahead at (787) 826-5015 to confirm assistance availability.
Five minutes away are the Añasco Bridge, a historic site, and the Añasco River. Within 15 minutes: Punta Higüero Beach for surfers and the La Pirámide viewpoint. More info is available on the local tourism website.
Wear light but respectful clothing: men should avoid tank tops, and women should keep their shoulders covered. Bring water and sunscreen. If you want to dive deeper into the history, hire local guides or use apps such as iAudioguia.
