Funicular histórico en Pittsburgh que asciende el Monte Washington, con vistas panorámicas del skyline y la confluencia de los ríos Allegheny, Monongahela y Ohio.
The funicular operates 365 days a year so you won’t miss the views. From Monday to Saturday it is open from 5:30 a.m. to 12:30 a.m., and on Sundays from 7:00 a.m. to 12:30 a.m.; you can check details on its official website.
You do not need to book; the price is $2.50 per adult one-way trip ($5.00 round trip) and $1.25 for children. It is important to bring the exact amount in cash, since they do not give change, or use the public transit ConnectCard.
The experience is brief but memorable; allow between 30 and 45 minutes. This will give you enough time for the ascent, to enjoy the panoramic views at the top, and to visit the small indoor historical museum.
Opened in 1877, it is a treasure of 19th-century engineering rescued by local residents in the 1960s. It is famous for offering one of the best urban views in the United States, showcasing Pittsburgh’s spectacular Golden Triangle.
For an unforgettable experience, go just before sunset. That way you can see the city by day, enjoy the sunset, and stay to marvel as the skyscrapers and bridges light up at night.
Please note that only the Upper Station is wheelchair accessible and has panoramic views. The Lower Station has stairs, so it is recommended to arrive by vehicle directly at the top on Grandview Avenue.
Since you are in Mount Washington, you can walk along Grandview Avenue and dine at its famous restaurants with a view. At the base, you are very close to Station Square, a complex of shops and nightlife.
Do not limit yourself to looking out the window; step into the machine room at the upper station. Seeing the original 1877 wooden gears in operation is something unique that adds great value to your ticket.
