Discover Union Station in Kansas City. A unique experience to learn about its history and significance.
The historic building is open daily from 6:00 AM to 12:00 AM, although attractions such as Science City usually operate from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The most convenient way to get there is by using the free KC Streetcar, which has a stop right in front of the station on Pershing Road.
Admission to the Grand Hall and the building's common areas is completely free and open to the public. However, to access specific attractions such as the Planetarium, the Regnier Extreme Screen Theatre, or Science City, you must purchase tickets on their official website.
If you only want to admire the architecture and the main hall, 45 minutes will be enough. If you plan to visit Science City or any of the international traveling exhibitions, we recommend setting aside between 3 and 4 hours to enjoy the full experience.
Opened in 1914, it is a masterpiece of the Beaux-Arts style that handled more than 600 trains a day at its peak. In addition to being the site of the famous 1933 Kansas City Massacre, it represents a symbol of resilience after its massive restoration in 1999.
Weekday mornings are ideal for avoiding crowds and enjoying the architecture at a relaxed pace. However, the holiday season (November-December) offers a uniquely magical experience thanks to its festive decorations, although visitor numbers are much higher.
Yes, Union Station fully complies with ADA regulations, offering elevators and ramps to access all levels, museums, and theaters. Accessible parking is available in the west garage, and wheelchairs can be requested at the customer service desk.
Just across the street is the impressive National WWI Museum and Memorial with panoramic views of the city. You can also cross the pedestrian bridge known as 'The Link' to reach Crown Center and the SEA LIFE aquarium.
Check the events calendar before you go, as they often host world-class temporary exhibitions that require advance booking. To save time and money on parking, park in the River Market district and take the free streetcar south to the station.
