❓ Frequently Asked Questions

What are the opening hours and how do I get to the museum?

Thinktank is usually open Wednesday to Sunday from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm, and 7 days a week during Birmingham school holidays. It is located inside the Millennium Point building and is easy to reach with a 10-minute walk from Moor Street railway station.

How much are the tickets, or is entry free?

It is a paid attraction; the approximate price is £15.50 for adults and £11.25 for children, although children under 3 enter free. I recommend buying tickets in advance on the official website to secure your place.

How much time is recommended to see the whole museum?

To enjoy the four floors, the Science Garden, and watch a show at the Planetarium, allow at least 3 to 4 hours. If you are visiting with very curious children, you could easily spend the whole day exploring.

What makes this museum so historically special?

Thinktank houses gems from the Industrial Revolution, including the Smethwick steam engine, the oldest working steam engine in the world, and Spitfire aircraft built in the city. It is the ultimate place to understand Birmingham’s engineering legacy.

What is the best time to visit and avoid crowds?

For a quieter visit, the best option is a weekday afternoon after 2:00 pm during term time, when school groups have already left. Weekends are usually much busier.

Is the museum accessible for wheelchair users?

Yes, the building is fully accessible, with lifts to all floors, adapted toilets, and wide spaces for manoeuvring. In addition, there is parking for Blue Badge holders near the entrance.

What other attractions are nearby to combine with the visit?

Right opposite you will find Eastside City Park, perfect for a break, and less than a 15-minute walk away is the iconic shopping centre Bullring & Grand Central. It is a very central and well-connected area.

Any practical tips to make the most of the experience?

Do not miss the Planetarium shows, but keep in mind that they cost extra and have fixed schedules, so book that first when you arrive. If you are visiting with young children, head straight to MiniBrum, a fascinating interactive mini city.
