The castle operates as an open public park, so it is accessible 24 hours a day throughout the year. It is located directly on the seafront, near St Michael's Church, and entry is free through several pedestrian entrances.

Good news! Admission to Aberystwyth Castle is completely free for all visitors. There is no need to book tickets in advance; you can simply arrive and explore the ruins and gardens at your own pace at no cost.

In general, a visit of 45 to 60 minutes is enough to explore the ruins, see the war memorial, and enjoy the views. If you plan to have a picnic or take lots of photos of the coastal scenery, we recommend allowing at least an hour and a half.

Built in the 13th century by Edward I to consolidate his power over the Welsh, this castle was the scene of major battles and was finally destroyed by Oliver Cromwell in 1649. Today its ruins are a symbol of the turbulent history of Wales and one of the region's most iconic coastal fortifications.

Although summer offers better weather, the magical time to visit the castle is undoubtedly at sunset, regardless of the season. The views of the sun sinking into Cardigan Bay from the walls create an impressive display of colors that is ideal for photography.

The main paths around the castle and toward the war memorial are paved and accessible, although they may have steep slopes. However, access to the interior of some ruins involves uneven ground and grass, which can make wheelchair access difficult in certain areas.

You are in a prime location; just a few minutes' walk away you will find the Royal Pier and the famous funicular Aberystwyth Cliff Railway for panoramic views. We also recommend visiting the impressive National Library of Wales, a cultural treasure a short distance away.

Since this is an exposed coastal area, always bring a windproof jacket, even on sunny days. We recommend wearing comfortable shoes for walking on uneven ground and downloading an audio guide on your phone to understand the purpose of each ruin as you stroll.
