A natural paradise on the Turkish coast, Icmeler Beach is a haven of serene beauty and vibrant marine life.
The beach is public and open 24 hours a day, although sunbed services usually operate from 08:00 to 19:00. You can get there easily by dolmuş (minibus) from the center of Marmaris in about 15 minutes, or use the scenic water taxis.
Access to the sand and the sea is completely free. However, using sunbeds and umbrellas usually involves a rental fee or a minimum spend at the bars and beach clubs that manage those areas.
For the full experience, I recommend setting aside a full day or at least half a day (4–5 hours). This will give you enough time to swim, enjoy water sports, and eat at the seafront restaurants.
Icmeler was originally a quiet village of fishermen and sponge divers, famous for its fresh-water springs (its name means "to drink"). Today it represents the evolution toward a kind of tourism that seeks more calm and scenic quality than neighboring Marmaris.
May, June, and September offer the best weather without the extreme heat of August. I advise going early in the morning, before 10:00, to find calm waters and secure the best spots by the sea.
The seafront promenade that runs along the coast is wide, paved, and excellent for wheelchairs. Although direct access to the water across the sand can be difficult without assistance, many hotels and beach clubs have adapted facilities.
You are very close to Turunç Bay, accessible by sea, and to the lively center of Marmaris with its castle and marina. I also recommend visiting the canal that runs through the town, a charming place with small bridges and gardens.
Bring water shoes, since the entry into the sea has a mix of sand and pebbles that can be uncomfortable. Do not forget your camera for sunset; the views of the Taurus Mountains dropping into the sea are spectacular.
