Donde el agua esconde huesos de emperadores y peces revolucionarios
Gölcük Nature Park is open 24 hours a day all year round, although visiting during daylight hours is recommended for safety. It is easily reached by car from Bolu (15–20 minutes), with parking available on site; use Google Maps for precise directions.
Entry is paid: approximately 120 TRY per vehicle and 30 TRY per person on foot (2024 prices, subject to change). There are no free tickets, but it is affordable for a nature visit; check the official Bolu website for updated rates.
A typical visit lasts 1 to 2 hours, ideal for walking around the lake and enjoying the views. If you plan a picnic or light hiking, you can extend it to 3 hours for a fuller experience.
Lake Gölcük is a natural glacial lake in Gölcük Nature Park, declared a protected area in 1977 for its scenic beauty and biodiversity. It is a symbol of Bolu’s natural landscape, attracting visitors for its tranquility and unique ecosystem.
Autumn (September–November) is ideal for the vibrant leaf colors, although summer is perfect for picnics. Avoid snowy winters if you dislike cold roads; early mornings offer fewer crowds and better light.
There are paved paths around the lake that allow wheelchair access across much of the main area, but some secondary trails are uneven. I recommend checking current conditions on the official website or calling +90 374 253 35 35.
Nearby are Lake Abant (45 minutes by car) and Yedigöller National Park (1 hour), both with stunning landscapes. In the city of Bolu (20 minutes), visit the museum or historic castles to round out your route.
Bring a picnic, water, and insect repellent, as there are eating areas; wear comfortable shoes for the trails. Go early to avoid crowds and respect the park rules; download the Bolu tourism app for more tips.
