La Mezquita Aziziye en Konya es un joya de la arquitectura otomana del siglo XIX, construida por orden del sultán Abdulaziz. Destaca por su estilo barroco y su imponente presencia en la ciudad de los derviches.
The mosque is open daily from about 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., although it closes briefly during prayer times (check the Islamic calendar). You can get there by tram (Line 1 to Aziziye stop) or by bus from the city center; use Google Maps for precise directions.
Admission is completely free, as in most mosques in Turkey. There are no fees or reservations required; just respect the dress code.
It is recommended to allow 30 to 45 minutes to explore the interior, the courtyard, and the architectural details at a relaxed pace. If you use an audio guide, the visit could extend to an hour.
Built in 1873-1874 by order of Sultan Abdulaziz, it commemorates the Battle of Aziziye during the Russo-Turkish War of 1877. It represents a notable example of Ottoman neoclassical architecture in Konya, a city regarded as the cradle of Sufism.
Spring (April-May) or autumn (September-October) are ideal thanks to the mild weather; avoid summer because of the intense heat. Go early in the morning (9-11 a.m.) for fewer tourists and better light for photos.
The main access is at ground level with ramps at some entrances, and the interior has carpets and few obstacles; however, it is not ideal for wheelchairs because of old thresholds. Contact +90 332 235 12 00 for assistance.
Just 1 km away is the Mevlana Museum (Rumi), a must for anyone interested in Sufism; there is also Alaeddin Mosque and the Konya Bazaar. Explore everything in a combined day trip, and check Konya Tourism.
Wear modest clothing (cover shoulders and knees, and women should bring a headscarf), remove your shoes when entering, and keep quiet. Bring water, use sunscreen, and download an audio guide at IAudioguia to enrich the experience.
