Göreme National Park is open 24 hours a day, but major attractions such as the Göreme Open-Air Museum are open from 8:00 to 19:00 (April-October) and from 8:00 to 17:00 (November-March). Access to the park is free, but major attractions such as the Göreme Open-Air Museum require an admission ticket (currently 300 Turkish lira, about €10). Tickets can be purchased at the ticket office or online. Check updated prices: Turkey Museums Tickets.
We recommend at least half a day to see the essentials, although ideally you should spend a full day exploring the valleys (Love Valley, Pigeon Valley), rock-cut churches, and panoramic viewpoints such as Sunset View Point.
It has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1985, notable for: 1) Christian underground cities from the 4th century 2) Fairy chimneys unique in the world 3) Byzantine frescoes in cave churches such as the Dark Church.
The best months are April to June and September to October (mild temperatures, fewer crowds). To best enjoy the panoramic views, visit at sunrise or sunset, when the light enhances the reddish tones of the rock formations.
Accessibility is limited due to uneven terrain, sloping paths, and steps in the rock-cut churches. Only some areas of the Göreme Open-Air Museum are partially accessible. We recommend checking in advance at +90 384 271 21 67.
