A visit takes between 30 and 45 minutes. It is a small rock-cut church but has impressive Byzantine frescoes. Include time for photographs and quiet contemplation.
It dates from the 9th–10th centuries AD. It stands out for its well-preserved Byzantine frescoes depicting biblical scenes. It was an important religious center during the Christian period in Cappadocia.
We recommend visiting early in the morning (8:00–10:00 AM) to avoid tour groups. Spring (April–June) and autumn (September–October) offer pleasant temperatures.
It is not wheelchair accessible. The visit requires walking up uneven rocky paths and there are steps inside. Non-slip footwear is essential.
Nearby are Pigeon Valley (1 km), the village of Mustafapaşa (5 km), and the Göreme Open-Air Museum (15 km). Combine your visit with the Dark Church in Göreme.
Wear comfortable sports shoes, bring water, and carry a small flashlight to better appreciate the frescoes. Avoid touching the paintings. Sunsets here are magical, but you will need transportation for the return trip.
