If you love photography or want to explore in more detail, you may wish to extend your visit a little longer.

Although today it is mainly seen as a rock formation and viewpoint, the 'castle' of Ürgüp has a deep history. It is believed to have served as a strategic lookout post and refuge in ancient times, thanks to its elevated position offering a commanding view of the region. Its caves and rock formations have witnessed centuries of Cappadocian history, from ancient civilizations to the Byzantine and Ottoman periods. It represents the area's natural architecture and defensive heritage.

The best time to visit the Castle of Ürgüp is at sunrise or sunset. The colors of the sky at these times create an unforgettable visual spectacle over the landscape of Cappadocia and its fairy chimneys. As for the time of year, spring (April-May) and autumn (September-October) are ideal, with pleasant temperatures and fewer crowds.

Due to its rocky nature and the presence of steps and uneven paths, access to the Castle of Ürgüp can be challenging for people with reduced mobility or wheelchairs. However, the views from the base are still impressive, even if you cannot reach the summit.

Ürgüp is an excellent starting point for exploring Cappadocia. Very close to the castle, you can visit the Rose Valley and Red Valley, famous for their hiking routes and stunning rock formations. I also recommend Uçhisar Castle (about 10 km away), and of course you should not miss the Göreme Open-Air Museum (about 7 km away), a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

To make the most of your visit, wear comfortable, non-slip shoes, especially if you plan to climb to the top. Bring water, and if you go at sunrise or sunset, a light jacket may be useful.
