Audio Guide of the Red Tower

The Red Tower (Kızıl Kule) is generally open every day from 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM in winter and until 7:00 PM in summer. It is located in the heart of Alanya Harbor, at the end of İskele Street, and is very easy to reach on foot from the city center.

Admission has a modest cost (it varies with lira inflation), but the smartest option is to buy the combined ticket that includes the Shipyard (Tersane). You can also enter with the Museum Pass Türkiye if you plan to visit more attractions in the country.

The visit is quick but intense; I recommend allowing 30 to 45 minutes. That will give you enough time to climb its five floors, admire the central cistern, and enjoy the panoramic views from the rooftop.

It is the ultimate symbol of the city, built in 1226 by the Seljuk sultan Alaaddin Keykubad to protect the harbor. It is a marvel of octagonal medieval military engineering that has withstood centuries of history and sieges.

Without a doubt, try to go shortly before sunset or early in the morning to avoid the oppressive heat. The golden afternoon light on the red bricks with the Mediterranean Sea in the background guarantees the best photographs.

To be honest, accessibility is limited because of its historic architecture with high, steep stone steps. The ground floor is accessible, but going up to the upper levels and the terrace is not recommended for wheelchairs or people with serious mobility difficulties.

Do not miss the historic Seljuk Shipyard (Tersane), which you can reach by walking along the walls from the tower itself. You are also just steps from the lively harbor and very close to the climb up to the imposing Alanya Castle.

Wear closed, non-slip shoes, as the interior stone can be slippery and the steps are high. Bring water with you and get ready to explore history layer by layer; the breeze at the top is the best reward after the climb.
