En el corazón del desierto tunecino, donde el agua traicionera convirtió un paraíso en ruinas embrujadas...
As an open-air natural site, access is available 24 hours a day, although we recommend visiting in daylight (from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.). It is easy to reach by car or 4x4 via the road connecting Tozeur with the mountain oases.
Access to the Great Waterfall and the surrounding area is completely free, so you do not need to buy official tickets. However, you will often find local guides or souvenir sellers whom you can support voluntarily.
A good visit will take between 45 minutes and one hour. This gives you enough time to go down to the base of the waterfall, take photos without rushing, and enjoy a tea at the nearby cafés overlooking the old village.
Tamerza, the ancient Roman Ad Turres, is fascinating for the ruins of the old village, abandoned after the terrible floods of 1969. You are walking through living history where water and Berber architecture intertwine.
The best time is from October to May to avoid the intense heat of the Tunisian summer. If you go early in the morning, you will avoid the tour buses and have the waterfall almost to yourself.
Unfortunately, it is not an adapted site; the terrain is uneven and rocky, and there are natural steps leading down to the waterfall. Visitors with reduced mobility can still enjoy the panoramic views from the upper parking area.
You are on the route of the Mountain Oases. Do not miss the oasis of Chebika and the Mides canyon, which are often visited on the same day to complete the experience.
Wear closed shoes with good grip, not flip-flops, so you can walk safely on the wet rocks. Bring cash (dinars) if you want to buy desert roses or fresh dates from local vendors.
