Access to the beach is completely free. You only pay for extra services such as sunbed or umbrella rental (between 5–10 TND/day). Some beachfront restaurants may charge for the use of private areas.
At least half a day is recommended: 2–3 hours to enjoy the beach and another 2 hours to explore the nearby oasis. If you include a meal at a local restaurant, plan for 5–6 hours in total.
It is one of the few beaches in the world located within a coastal oasis, where palm groves meet the sea. This unique ecosystem was once an important trade route and is now a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. More info: UNESCO Gabès Oasis.
Spring (March–May) and autumn (September–November), with temperatures between 20°C and 28°C. July and August exceed 35°C. Avoid the chergui winds (easterly wind) in summer, as they can blow sand around.
The central area has flat access but no specific ramps. The sand is compact near the water, making wheelchair use easier. Nearby facilities (public restrooms) have basic adaptations. Assistance is recommended for dune areas.
3 km away is the Gabès Oasis with its historic palm groves, the spice market in the Medina, and the traditional fishing port. About 45 minutes away: the Matmata Mountains, famous for their troglodyte homes. More options: Tunisia Tourism.
Bring water shoes in case of rocks in some areas. Sunscreen is essential. Try the fresh fish at local restaurants such as La Daurade. To visit the oasis, hire a local guide (10–15 TND/hour) to show you the ancient irrigation systems.
