Explore the arid and fascinating settings of Tunisia that brought the iconic scenes of the Star Wars saga on the planet Tatooine to life.
The locations are open-air sites and can be visited freely throughout the day. However, we recommend visiting between 8:00 AM and 6:00 PM for greater safety and better photographic lighting. There are no official time restrictions.
Access to the locations is completely free, as they are natural outdoor sites. If you would like a local guide, some offer tours for 20-30 dinars. Contact the Djerba tourist office: Tunisia Tourism.
We recommend allowing 1-2 hours to explore the main spots at a relaxed pace, such as the Lars homestead and the rock formations. Including photos and time to appreciate the details, many fans spend up to 3 hours.
Ajim is home to the iconic Tatooine set where key scenes from 'Star Wars' (1977) and other installments were filmed. Here you will see the smokehouse where Luke Skywalker grew up and unique landscapes from the Star Wars universe.
Choose spring (March-May) or autumn (September-November), with mild temperatures of 20-25°C. Avoid July and August, when temperatures exceed 40°C. Early morning hours are ideal for photographic light and avoiding groups.
The terrain is sandy and uneven, with some changes in level. There is no accessibility infrastructure. Assistance is recommended for wheelchairs. Four-wheel-drive vehicles can get partially close to the key points.
On the island of Djerba, highlights include the Djerba Bardo Museum (Islamic art), the El Ghriba Synagogue, and the souks of Houmt Souk. More info: Djerba Tourism.
Wear closed shoes for sand and rocks, maximum sun protection, and bring water, as there are no services nearby. For a better experience, download an audio guide before you go so you can compare the scenes with the real locations.
