Access to the natural area is usually free, but you will need to pay for river transport. Renting a private boat to explore the mangroves and see fireflies typically costs between 500 and 800 THB, depending on the duration and your bargaining skills.

I recommend setting aside between 1 and 2 hours for the full experience. This is ideal for taking a boat ride through the channels, observing local wildlife, and enjoying the tranquility of the ecosystem at a relaxed pace.

These wetlands are crucial for filtering the water that flows into the Gulf of Thailand and they serve as a natural nursery for various species. It is a vital ecosystem where traditional local communities coexist with wildlife such as macaques and migratory birds.

Without a doubt, sunset is the magical time to see the fireflies and enjoy cooler temperatures. Visiting between December and April, during the dry season, gives you less rain and better conditions for photography.

Accessibility is limited, as the visit requires getting on and off traditional boats, which are often narrow and unstable. It is not recommended for wheelchairs unless specialized assistance and adapted private transport are available.

Take the opportunity to visit the Surat Thani City Pillar Shrine or relax in Ko Lamphu Island Park. Both are very close to the main piers and perfectly complement the day.

Bring strong mosquito repellent, especially if you go at sunset, and carry a camera with a good zoom for wildlife. We also suggest bringing cash in baht to pay the boatmen directly.
