Audio Guide of Viharn Phra Mongkol Bophit

It is open every day from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM. You can get there by bicycle, tuk-tuk, or bus from central Ayutthaya; it is about 2 km west of the historic island. Check the official map at Tourism Authority of Thailand.

Admission is free for all visitors. Only a voluntary donation is recommended for the upkeep of the temple.

It is recommended to spend between 30 and 45 minutes admiring the imposing Buddha statue and the viharn. You can stay longer if you want to meditate or take photos.

Built in 1957, it houses one of the largest seated Buddha statues in the world, 12.5 meters high, rebuilt after damage during the Second World War. It represents Buddhist devotion in Ayutthaya, the former capital of Siam and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The best time is from November to February, during the cool, dry season. Go early in the morning, around 8:00 AM, to avoid the heat and the crowds.

It has access ramps to the main viharn, but some side areas have stairs. If you need assistance, ask the staff on site.

Just a few minutes away by bicycle, you will find Wat Chaiwatthanaram on the other side of the river and Wat Phra Si Sanphet in Ayutthaya Historical Park. Explore the area by combining them in a full tour.

Wear modest clothing with shoulders and knees covered, remove your shoes before entering, and bring water because of the hot climate. Use mosquito repellent and rent a bike to get around Ayutthaya easily.
