The temple is open daily from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. To reach Nakhon Si Thammarat from Bangkok, you can take a flight to the city's airport or an overnight train, and from there a local taxi to the temple, which is located in the city's historic center.

Admission to the main temple complex is free, although donations are welcome and appreciated for the site's upkeep. If you would like to visit the local museum within the grounds, the fee is symbolic (approximately 40-50 THB) and applies only to foreign visitors.

For a complete visit, including time to admire the great pagoda (chedi) and the historic murals, plan for 1 to 1.5 hours. If you are interested in spirituality and would like to take part in a brief meditation, you may want to stay up to 2 hours.

Phra Mahathat Woramaha Wiharn is one of the most important temples in southern Thailand, founded more than 1,000 years ago during the Srivijaya kingdom. It houses a relic of a hair of the Buddha and is considered the spiritual center of the region, as it is the site of the famous annual Phra Borommathat festival procession.

The early morning hours (8:00-10:00 AM) are ideal for avoiding the heat and enjoying the peaceful atmosphere. If you visit between February and March, you may witness the vibrant Phra Borommathat festival, although crowds will be larger during those days.

Just a short walk away, you will find the Temple Museum with historical exhibits and the handicraft souvenir market. In addition, the historic center of Nakhon Si Thammarat offers attractions such as the Wat Phra Mahathat Temple gardens and the Cultural House, all within walking distance of the main complex.

Wear modest clothing that covers your shoulders and knees, bring water, and show full respect when praying or taking photos (avoid flash in sacred areas). Bring cash for donations and souvenirs, and download the province's tourist map from the official Tourism Thailand website.
