The complex is usually open every day from about 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. To reach the summit, you must park at the base and take the temple’s mandatory songthaew trucks, followed by a walk up the stairs of about 30 minutes.
The total price for foreign visitors is around 200–300 THB, which includes the entrance fee (200 THB) and round-trip transport by truck shuttle to the start of the stairs.
I suggest allowing between 2 and 3 hours in total. This covers the truck ride, the climb up the 800 meters of stairs, time to enjoy the panoramic views, and the descent.
This sanctuary was built to commemorate the 200th anniversary of King Rama IV of the Rattanakosin dynasty. It is an impressive testament of faith, as the materials were carried piece by piece up to the limestone peaks.
The cool season (November to February) is ideal for avoiding the intense heat. Try to arrive early in the morning (7:30–8:00 a.m.) to see the mist or sunrise and avoid the crowds.
Unfortunately not. Although there is transport up to a certain point, the final stretch requires climbing more than 800 meters of steep metal stairs, so a good level of physical mobility is needed.
An excellent nearby stop is Chae Son National Park, famous for its natural hot springs where you can relax after the hike.
It is a sacred temple, so cover your shoulders and knees. Wear comfortable athletic shoes (no flip-flops for the stairs), bring water, sunscreen, and your camera for incredible views.
