Donde los gigantes de Asia revelan sus secretos mejor guardados y sus travesuras más juguetonas
The Lampang Elephant Conservation Center is generally open daily from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM. It is located about 30 kilometers south of the city of Lampang. The easiest way to get there is by taxi, songthaew (shared pickup truck), or rental car. You can find more details on its official page: Center Contact.
General admission for foreign visitors is usually around 200 baht. Some activities, such as closer interactions with the elephants or certain shows, may have an additional cost. It is recommended to check the latest prices on the website or directly at the ticket office: Official Website.
For a complete experience, it is recommended to spend between 3 and 4 hours on the visit. This will allow you to observe the elephants’ routine, attend the demonstrations, and explore the facilities without rushing while appreciating the important conservation work carried out there.
The center was established in 1993 by the Forest Industry Organization of Thailand (FIO) to protect and rehabilitate Thai elephants, especially those that were injured or orphaned. It is the only government-owned elephant camp in Thailand and plays a crucial role in veterinary medicine, research, and elephant breeding, while also educating the public about their conservation.
The best time to visit Lampang, and the center, is during the cool dry season from November to February, when temperatures are more comfortable. As for the time of day, early mornings are usually ideal for seeing the elephants at their most active and attending the first demonstrations before the heat becomes stronger.
The center makes an effort to be as inclusive as possible, although some areas may be more difficult because of the natural terrain. There are ramps and paved paths in the main areas. It is recommended to contact the center directly for specific information about accessibility and assistance through its website or at +66 54 227 006.
In the Lampang area, you could visit the impressive Wat Phra That Lampang Luang, considered one of the best examples of Lanna architecture in Thailand. You can also explore the charming city of Lampang, known for its horse-drawn carriages and ancient temples, offering an interesting cultural contrast.
Wear comfortable, light clothing, sunscreen, a hat, and insect repellent. Keep a respectful distance from the elephants, always follow staff instructions, and choose programs that prioritize animal welfare. Don’t forget your camera to capture the moments, and buy a souvenir to support their cause. And of course, stay well hydrated!
