¿Sabías que esta playa idílica fue testigo de batallas navales y piratas escondidos? Ven, te cuento los secretos que no salen en las guías.
As a public beach, Khlong Prao Beach is open 24 hours a day, every day of the year. Access is usually via marked paths from the main road or by crossing through the beachfront resorts.
Access to the beach is completely free; you do not have to pay any fee or admission charge. You will only have costs if you choose to rent sun loungers, kayaks, or eat and drink at the bars and restaurants in the area.
As the longest beach on Ko Chang, I recommend setting aside at least half a day, around 3 to 4 hours. This will allow you to walk along it at a relaxed pace, enjoy a swim in its calm waters, and watch the sunset.
Khlong Prao is important because of its natural estuary; its name means 'Coconut Canal' and it divides the beach into two sections connected to the sea. Historically, it has been a quieter and less commercialized area than other beaches, preserving a more local and natural atmosphere.
The best time is the dry season, from November to April, when the sea is calm and the skies are clear. The best time of day is undoubtedly sunset; the views of the sun going down over the ocean are among the best on the entire island.
Direct access to the sand can be difficult for wheelchairs because of the soft ground. However, many of the beachfront resorts have paved paths and ramps that allow visitors to get quite close to the shore.
Very close by is the famous Klong Plu Waterfall, one of the most visited natural attractions on Ko Chang. You can also visit Wat Khlong Prao for a bit of local culture or explore the estuary mangroves by kayak.
Bring insect repellent, as sandflies can appear in the late afternoon. Also, if you want to cross the canal that divides the beach, do so at low tide or rent a small canoe so you do not get your belongings wet.
