Templo budista enclavado en una colina en Trang, Tailandia, conocido por su imponente chedi dorada y vistas panorámicas de la campiña circundante.
The temple is generally open every day from early morning until sunset. No advance booking is needed to visit the main area and the iconic white stupa, making it an easy and relaxed visit.
Entry to the main temple complex is free, although voluntary donations are accepted for maintenance. Donations help support the preservation of this important historic site.
For a full visit, including climbing the stupa and exploring the surroundings, you will need between 45 minutes and 1.5 hours. If you plan to meditate or take photos at a relaxed pace, you may want to stay a little longer.
Wat Phukhao Thong, or "Golden Mountain," was built in the 18th century and is a symbol of peace between the Buddhist and Muslim communities of Trang. Its distinctive white tower with a golden spire is unique and reflects the typical architecture of the region.
The early morning hours (7:00-9:00 AM) or sunset are ideal for avoiding the intense heat and enjoying better photos. For the weather, the season from November to February offers cooler and more pleasant temperatures.
Access can be challenging, as there are steps leading up to the main stupa. There are no elevators, so visitors with reduced mobility are advised to come with assistance. The temple area at the base is accessible.
It is very close to the center of Trang, and you can walk to the Shrine of the City Pillar. You can also explore the famous Trang Night Plaza, which is only a few minutes away by car.
Wear modest clothing that covers your shoulders and knees, bring water to stay hydrated, and use comfortable footwear for climbing the stairs. Remember to bring sunscreen and a hat if you visit during the middle of the day.
