Donde las rocas submarinas guardan más historias que peces en el arrecife.
Access is exclusively by boat, usually from Mae Haad Pier on Ko Tao, and takes about 40 minutes. Although it is an open-sea site and never closes, dive operators usually schedule departures at 7:00 AM to avoid crowds or at 12:00 PM.
The price depends on the dive center, but a typical two-tank outing (fun dive) costs around 1,800 to 2,500 THB (approximately 50-70 USD). If you have your own equipment, you can often negotiate a discount on the final price.
You should reserve half a day, as the excursion lasts between 4 and 5 hours including transfers and the surface interval. Each dive underwater usually lasts between 40 and 50 minutes depending on your air consumption.
It is considered the best dive site in the area because of its impressive granite topography and biodiversity. Historically, it is the key spot for sightings of the majestic whale shark and large schools of barracuda and trevally.
For the best visibility and the highest chances of seeing a whale shark, I recommend visiting between March and May, or from August to October. Early morning dives usually offer calmer waters and fewer divers.
It is not an accessible site for people with reduced mobility because access is by boat and stairs; in addition, a diving certification is required (ideally Advanced level), as the depth ranges from 14 to 36 meters and there can be strong currents.
Boats generally combine this visit with stops at White Rock or Green Rock on the return trip. These sites are shallower and perfect for a relaxed second dive or snorkeling.
Bring motion sickness tablets if the sea is rough, and make sure to dive with Nitrox if you are certified to extend your bottom time. Do not forget your underwater camera—the schools of batfish here are spectacular.
