A sanctuary dedicated to the conservation and care of elephants, a fundamental pillar of Thai culture.
The center is open every day from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM. It is located about 40 km south of Lampang; you can take a taxi from the train station (around 800 THB round trip) or a local songthaew. Visit the official website for more transport details.
Admission to the center is free, but activities such as the elephant show cost 250 THB for adults and 150 THB for children. Family package options are available; check updated prices on the official website.
It is recommended to allow 2 to 3 hours to see the elephants, the show, and the facilities. If you take part in additional activities such as elephant painting, plan for 4 hours in total.
Founded in 1993 by the Forest Industry Organization of Thailand, the center is dedicated to the conservation of Asian elephants, reforestation, and the rehabilitation of rescued animals. It plays a key role in educating visitors about the protection of this endangered species and its cultural role in Thailand.
The best time is the dry season from November to February to avoid rain and extreme heat. Go in the morning (around 9:00 AM) for the first shows and fewer crowds.
There are paved paths in the main areas and ramps at some points, but the terrain is uneven in places. Manual wheelchairs are recommended; contact the center at +66 54 227 042 for special arrangements.
In Lampang, visit Wat Phra Kaew Don Tao Temple (30 minutes away) with its Emerald Buddha, or the historic center of Lampang with its horse-drawn carriages. Chae Son National Park is an hour away for waterfalls and trekking.
Bring mosquito repellent, water, a hat, and comfortable shoes; do not feed the elephants directly. Book shows in advance through the official website and arrive early to avoid the afternoon heat.
