Donde la ciencia y el chamanismo se enfrentaron en la selva tailandesa
The museum is open every day from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM. You can easily get there by tuk-tuk or taxi from central Chiang Rai (about 15 minutes). To confirm opening hours, check the official website: Hill Tribe Museum.
General admission is 200 THB (approx. 5 USD/4.50 EUR) per person. Tickets are purchased directly at the museum ticket office. Children under 12 receive a 50% discount.
We recommend setting aside 1 to 2 hours to explore all the interactive exhibits and the open-air display of traditional tribal houses.
The museum preserves the heritage of 6 indigenous tribes of northern Thailand (Akha, Karen, Lahu, Hmong, Yao, and Lisu), showcasing their ancestral traditions, clothing, and tools. It is a recognition of their role in Thailand's cultural diversity.
The best time is during the dry season (November to February), when temperatures are pleasant. Mornings (9:00-11:00 AM) are less crowded. Avoid holiday weekends.
The museum has ramps in the main areas. However, some outdoor paths between the tribal houses may have uneven ground. Accessible restrooms are available at the entrance.
Less than 10 km away are the iconic White Temple (Wat Rong Khun) and the mysterious Black House (Baan Dam Museum). Ideal to combine in one day.
Wear comfortable shoes and bring mosquito repellent and water. Consider hiring a local guide (150 THB extra) to better understand the tribal stories. Do not touch the ceremonial objects on display.
