Rema por un río subterráneo en la oscuridad, siente vientos misteriosos y presencia el éxodo de millones de murciélagos: secretos que solo un local te cuenta.
The park is usually open every day from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. To enter, you must hire a local guide with a gas lamp at the entrance, as there is no artificial lighting inside, and the visit combines walking with sections on a bamboo raft.
There is no single admission ticket; you pay per group (max. 3 people), around 150–200 THB for the guide, plus an extra fee for the raft (approx. 300–400 THB round trip). Bring cash, as it is the only payment method accepted at the park ticket office.
Set aside between 1.5 and 2 hours to complete the full visit at a relaxed pace. This includes the walk through the three main chambers (Pillar, Doll, and Coffin) and the bamboo raft ride along the Nam Lang River that runs through the cave.
It is a fascinating archaeological site where ancient carved teakwood coffins from Lawa culture, more than 1,700 years old, were discovered. It offers a unique window into the prehistory and anthropology of northern Thailand.
The dry season (November to April) is ideal to ensure the river is navigable. I recommend going at sunset (around 5:30 PM) to witness the natural spectacle of thousands of swifts entering the cave while the bats fly out.
It is not recommended. Access involves climbing hundreds of rather steep wooden steps, walking on slippery and uneven surfaces, and boarding unstable bamboo rafts, which is very difficult without full mobility.
You are on the Mae Hong Son route; I recommend visiting the Ban Jabo Viewpoint to see an incredible sea of mist, or continuing toward the bohemian town of Pai, full of waterfalls and hot springs.
Wear very comfortable, non-slip footwear because of the bat guano and humidity. If you want to fully understand the history beneath your feet as you walk, I suggest complementing the local guide’s explanation with a good audio guide.
