Discover Tha Pai Hot Springs in Pai District. A unique experience to explore its history and significance.
The park is usually open every day from 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM. The best way to get there is by renting a scooter from central Pai (about 8 km away) or taking a songthaew (local taxi). You can see the exact location on Google Maps.
It is not free, as it belongs to Huai Nam Dang National Park. The fee for foreign visitors is usually around 300 THB for adults and 150 THB for children, plus a small vehicle charge. Remember to bring cash, as cards are rarely accepted at the ticket office.
Ideally, set aside between 1.5 and 2 hours for your visit. That gives you enough time to try the pools at different temperatures, relax in the jungle surroundings, and take a few photos without rushing.
These waters are a natural geological phenomenon in which underground water is heated by geothermal activity and flows out mixed with cooler water. They are locally known for their high mineral content and their supposed therapeutic benefits for the skin and muscle relaxation.
The best season is between November and February, when the weather is cooler in northern Thailand. I recommend going very early in the morning (before 9:00 AM) to enjoy the misty steam over the water and avoid the tourist crowds.
The terrain is natural, with dirt paths, stones, and several steps leading down to the pools, so it is not very wheelchair accessible. If you have limited mobility, the upper rest areas are easier to reach than the lower pools.
Make the most of the trip by visiting the famous Pai Canyon (Kong Lan), which is very close by, or the historic World War II Memorial Bridge. Both are along the route from town.
Bring your own towel and swimsuit, and most importantly, buy raw eggs at the market before you go. There is a specific upper area where the water reaches 80°C and you can boil them for a unique snack. Stay hydrated with drinking water.
