Discover Huai Krathing Reservoir in Loei Province. A unique experience to learn about its history and significance.
Huai Krathing Reservoir is open to the public every day from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. To get there, you can take private transport or rent a car from the city of Loei, as there is no direct public transportation. The journey from Loei takes approximately 1 hour. We recommend using Google Maps for accurate directions.
Admission to the reservoir is free, as it is a public area managed by the local government. However, some activities such as boat rides or equipment rental may have an additional cost. We suggest bringing cash, as not all services accept cards.
It is recommended to spend between 2 and 4 hours exploring the reservoir and its surroundings. If you plan to do activities such as hiking, picnicking, or boat rides, you could extend your visit to half a day or even a full day.
The reservoir is an important engineering work for the Loei region, built to control flooding and provide water for agriculture. It is also a place of great natural beauty that attracts visitors interested in biodiversity and the serene landscapes of Thailand.
The best time to visit is during the cool season, from November to February, when the weather is more pleasant. To avoid crowds, we recommend going early in the morning or at sunset, when the scenery is especially beautiful.
The main reservoir area is accessible, with flat paths and rest areas. However, some hiking zones may be difficult for people with reduced mobility. We suggest contacting the local tourism office for up-to-date accessibility information.
Near the reservoir, you can visit Phu Ruea National Park, known for its waterfalls and panoramic views, or Wat Nong Wang, a historic Buddhist temple. Both are less than 30 minutes away by car.
Bring sun protection, water, and snacks, as food options on site are limited. It is also a good idea to bring mosquito repellent and comfortable walking shoes. If you plan to swim or do water activities, check water conditions with the local authorities.
