Discover Pattaya Floating Market in Chon Buri Province. A unique experience to learn about its history and significance.
The market is open every day from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM. It is located on Sukhumvit Road, and the most convenient way to get there is by taxi or Grab from the city center, a journey that usually costs around 300-400 THB. You can see its exact location here: View on Google Maps.
Unlike other markets, foreign tourists must pay an entrance fee of around 200 THB for access only, although there are combined packages that include a rowboat ride. I recommend bringing cash in baht, as the ticket booths do not always accept international cards.
To enjoy the full experience, including a boat ride, trying food from the stalls, and seeing the four regional zones, I recommend setting aside between 2 and 3 hours. It is the ideal amount of time to avoid rushing and to soak up the atmosphere at your own pace.
Opened in 2008, this is not an old traditional market but a cultural attraction created to represent the architecture, food, and crafts of Thailand’s four main regions: North, Northeast, Central, and South. It is a living showcase of Thai cultural diversity in one place.
Ideally, arrive right at opening time, around 9:00 or 10:00 AM, to avoid large tour bus crowds and the intense midday heat. If you prefer a quieter atmosphere and better light for photos, the last hour of the afternoon is also an excellent option.
The market has wide wooden walkways and ramps connecting most areas, making it passable for wheelchairs. However, getting onto the traditional boats can be difficult and requires assistance, so it is recommended to enjoy the visit mainly on foot.
The location is excellent for combining visits; right next door you will find Tiger Park Pattaya, and just a few minutes away by car is the famous Underwater World Pattaya. You can also end the day relaxing at Jomtien Beach, which is a short taxi ride away.
Do not miss the street food from the boats, it is safe and delicious; try pad thai or mango sticky rice. Also remember to bring a hat and sunscreen, and do not be afraid to bargain with a smile if you are buying crafts or souvenirs, as it is part of the local culture.
