A paradise islet associated with Thai royalty and a haven of natural tranquility.
The island is accessible during the day, generally from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. To get there, you need to take a local boat or charter from the main pier of Ko Sichang; the journey is short, about 15 to 20 minutes.
Entry to the island is usually free, but the boat transfer costs between 300 and 500 THB (Thai baht) round trip, depending on whether you share the boat or hire it privately.
We recommend spending between 2 and 3 hours there. It is the ideal amount of time for snorkeling, enjoying the beach, and relaxing at your own pace before returning to the main island.
Although Koh Kham Yai stands out for its natural beauty, it is part of the Ko Sichang archipelago, famous for being the summer retreat of King Rama V. To better understand the area's historical depth, we suggest using an official audio guide during your tour of the region.
The best season is from November to February, when the weather is cool and dry. Avoid the monsoon season (June to October) if you are looking for crystal-clear waters and a calm sea.
Unfortunately, it is not very accessible. Boarding and disembarking from small boats, along with the sandy terrain, make access very difficult for wheelchairs or people with limited mobility.
Being so close to Ko Sichang, you should not miss King Chulalongkorn's Summer Palace (Phra Chudadhuj Ratchathan) and the Chao Pho Khao Yai shrine. You can easily locate these places on Google Maps after returning to the mainland.
Bring cash (Thai baht), as there are no ATMs, and make sure to take water and sunscreen. Do not forget to agree on the exact pickup time with your boatman before he leaves to avoid unnecessary waiting.
