Donde los contrabandistas escondían queso y las montañas juegan al espejo
Bargji See is a natural lake with free access all year round, although the path is mainly passable from June to October. It can be reached via a 15-minute hiking trail from the Bärgji bus stop in Grächen. 📌 GPS coordinates: 46.1752°N, 7.8479°E. More details at: Official Website
No, access to Bargji See is completely free. There are also no parking fees at the start of the trail, although using public transport to Grächen is recommended.
The round-trip trek takes about 30 to 40 minutes in total. We recommend allowing at least 1 full hour to enjoy the scenery, take photos, and relax by the lakeshore.
Bergseeli (the local name) is a natural glacial lake that reflects the Matterhorn in its waters. Historically, it was used as a watering place for shepherds and today it is a symbol of Alpine biodiversity. Rhododendrons and blueberries grow nearby.
The best period is from July to September, when the trail is free of snow and temperatures are pleasant. To avoid crowds, it is best to go before 10:00 a.m. or after 4:00 p.m. The sunsets are spectacular!
The last section of the trail has steep slopes and uneven ground. It is not suitable for wheelchairs. To ask about alternative routes better adapted to accessibility needs, contact: [email protected]
In the surrounding area we recommend: 1) Moos Viewpoint (panoramic valley views), 2) Hannigalp Cable Car (2,123 m), and 3) the Water Cultural Trail. More info: Attractions in Grächen
Mountain footwear, sun protection, and water. There are no services at the lake. We suggest bringing a trash bag (the 'Leave No Trace' principle). Check the trail conditions here: Interactive Map
