La pista de trineo más antigua y famosa del mundo, una emocionante bajada de hielo en las montañas de San Moritz.
The track is usually open from late December to early March, depending on ice conditions. To get there, you can take the local bus or walk from the center of St. Moritz; check the exact operating days on its official website.
Watching training sessions is usually free, but a Guest Ride costs around CHF 269. This adrenaline-filled experience includes the ride, helmet, return transport, and a certificate; you can book your spot directly here.
If you are only going to watch the races, one hour is enough to enjoy the atmosphere. If you have booked a Guest Ride, allow at least 2 hours for check-in, preparation, the 75-second descent, and the final ceremony.
It is legendary for being the oldest bobsleigh track in the world, dating from 1890, and the only one still made of natural ice, rebuilt by hand every year without artificial refrigeration. It hosted two Winter Olympic Games, in 1928 and 1948, making it a living monument to the sport.
Mornings are ideal, generally between 8:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m., as this is when training sessions and races take place before the sun warms the ice too much. January and February offer the most spectacular snow conditions and atmosphere.
The start area and the finish area in Celerina have easier access, but the path along the track is covered in snow and may be difficult for wheelchairs. It is recommended to contact the organization in advance to arrange specific assistance.
Right next to it is the famous Cresta Run, and just a few minutes away is the frozen lake of St. Moritz, where snow polo is played. At the end of the track in Celerina, you can explore that charming village or take the train back.
Wear sturdy footwear with good non-slip soles, as you will be walking on packed snow, and dress in layers because the temperature drops sharply in the shade. If you are doing the descent, do not forget warm gloves.
