Donde los reflejos alpinos guardan historias de rebeldes con causa y vacaciones de peces dorados
The lake is accessible 24 hours a day, year-round, as it is an open natural area. To get there, take the cable car from the Betten valley station to Bettmeralp (a car-free village), then walk about 10 minutes; check transport schedules at Aletsch Arena.
Access to Lake Bettmersee is completely free for all visitors. You only need to pay for the cable car ticket to Bettmeralp and, optionally, boat rental if you want to go out on the water.
To enjoy the scenery and take a relaxed walk around the lake, we recommend setting aside 1 to 2 hours. If you plan to have a picnic, rent a pedal boat, or swim in summer, consider spending half a day.
Lake Bettmersee is an Alpine gem in the heart of the Jungfrau-Aletsch Swiss Alps UNESCO World Heritage Site. Historically, it has served as a natural reservoir and today it is a symbol of sustainable tourism in the Alps.
The best time is from June to October if you want to enjoy water activities and hiking without snow. For photography, sunrise is spectacular thanks to the reflection of the mountains on the calm water.
Yes, Bettmeralp is committed to inclusion; the path from the cable car station to the lake and much of the circular trail are paved or made of compact gravel, suitable for wheelchairs and baby strollers.
You are very close to the Bettmerhorn viewpoint, which overlooks the Great Aletsch Glacier. You can also visit the 'Maria zum Schnee' chapel in Bettmeralp, one of the most photogenic chapels in Switzerland.
Wear layers, as mountain weather changes quickly, and do not forget your swimsuit in summer. For an immersive experience, download an audio guide at IAudioguia and discover the secrets of the landscape as you walk.
