Discover Trümmelbach Falls in Wengen. A unique experience to learn about its history and significance.
The falls are open from April to November, generally from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM in high season (check for weather-related changes). They are easily reached from the Lauterbrunnen Valley by train from Interlaken; once there, walk 10 minutes from the station or take a local bus. For more details, visit the official website or call +41 33 855 32 32.
Admission for adults is CHF 16, children aged 4-15 pay CHF 8, and children under 4 enter free; there are discounts for families and Swiss Travel Pass holders. Payment can be made by cash or card at the ticket office. It is not free, but the value of this unique experience is excellent.
It is recommended to allow at least 45-60 minutes to explore the lift tunnel and the walkways overlooking the 10 waterfalls. If you take your time and stop for photos, it could extend to 90 minutes, but it remains a compact visit inside the mountain.
These waterfalls are unique because they plunge inside a gorge carved into the Eiger mountain, fed by meltwater from glaciers such as the Jungfrau, with a flow of 20,000 liters per second in summer. Protected as a natural site since 1887, they are an impressive geological spectacle in the Lauterbrunnen Valley, a UNESCO World Heritage area.
Summer (June to September) is ideal because of the strongest water flow and good weather, especially around midday for optimal lighting. Avoid winter because they are closed, and avoid weekends in high season because of crowds; early morning is quieter.
The main access uses a lift to reach the level of the walkways, but there are stairs and narrow passages in some sections, which limits accessibility for wheelchairs. People with moderate mobility may manage with assistance; check the official website or call +41 33 855 32 32 for special options.
In the Lauterbrunnen Valley, visit the nearby Staubbach Falls (5 km away) or the village of Mürren by cable car. Do not miss Jungfraujoch, the 'Top of Europe,' about 1 hour away by train, or Lake Thun for a full day of Alpine nature.
Bring a rain jacket or poncho (one is provided at the entrance, but bringing your own is useful), wear non-slip shoes because of the moisture, and allow extra time since the lift has limited capacity. Book tickets online on the official website in high season to avoid queues, and combine the visit with a picnic in Lauterbrunnen for a perfect day.
