Donde las casas centenarias caminaron montañas para contarte sus secretos
The museum usually opens from mid-April to late October, every day from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. You can easily get there by train to Brienz or Interlaken station and then take the direct bus to the entrance (Ballenberg West or East); plan your route at SBB CFF FFS.
A day ticket costs approximately CHF 32 for adults, while children and groups have reduced rates. If you have a Swiss Travel Pass or the Museum Pass, admission is generally free; check updated prices on the official Ballenberg website.
Since it is a 66-hectare park, we recommend setting aside a full day to enjoy it without rushing. If you have limited time, allow at least 4 hours to see the main houses and craft demonstrations.
It is unique because it preserves more than 100 original centuries-old buildings, moved stone by stone from all over Switzerland for conservation. It is not just architecture; it brings rural history back to life with traditional crops, 250 farm animals, and live demonstrations of old trades.
Spring and autumn offer spectacular scenery, but any sunny day is ideal. We recommend arriving right at opening time (10:00 AM) to make the most of the light and see the animals active before most tourists arrive.
Most of the main paths are gravel and passable, although there are slopes; the West entrance is flatter. The museum offers wheelchair rental and even electric scooters that you can reserve in advance.
The region is full of natural gems; do not miss the Reichenbach Falls, famous for Sherlock Holmes. You can also visit the stunning Aare Gorge or take a boat trip on Lake Brienz.
Wear very comfortable shoes because you will walk quite a lot, and take advantage of the permitted picnic areas if you want to save on food. To fully understand each building without missing any detail, we strongly recommend using an immersive audio guide.
