Old Town is an open-air pedestrian area accessible 24 hours a day, every day of the year, although visiting during daylight hours is recommended for greater safety and to enjoy the open shops and cafés. Visiting Old Town is completely free, as it is a historic district open to the public with no entrance fees. However, if you enter specific museums or exhibitions within the area, such as Karlstad Museum, there may be additional costs; check updated prices on the Karlstad municipality website.

It is recommended to spend at least 1 to 2 hours walking through the cobbled streets and admiring the historic buildings, but if you include café stops or visits to shops, you could easily extend it to half a day. It is a relaxed stroll, ideal for taking your time and soaking up the atmosphere of the old quarter.

Old Town, or the historic center, dates back to the 17th century and represents the historic heart of Karlstad, with preserved wooden architecture that survived fires and rebuilding, reflecting traditional Swedish urban life.
