Donde el hombre que clasificó la naturaleza vivió su primer capítulo, incluyendo cuando se clasificó a sí mismo como polémico
Linnaeus House is open from Tuesday to Sunday, from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM during the summer (June-August). To visit, you can easily arrive by public transport (bus 3B from central Växjö) or walk from Växjö Cathedral (15 minutes). Check updated hours on the Växjö tourism website.
Admission is free, although donations for maintenance are accepted. You do not need to book in advance for individual visits. Large groups (+15 people) should contact +46 470 414 10.
The visit takes between 45 minutes and 1 hour. The tour includes the historic rooms, the exhibition on Linnaeus's life, and his reconstructed botanical garden. Do not miss his famous study!
This is where Carl Linnaeus was born (1707), the father of modern taxonomy. The house shows his humble roots and how he became Sweden's most celebrated scientist. It preserves personal belongings and first editions of his key works such as Systema Naturae.
June and July are ideal: the botanical garden is in full bloom and temperatures are pleasant (18-25°C). Visit in the morning to avoid school groups. Thursdays often feature traditional herbalism demonstrations.
Only the ground floor is accessible (main exhibition and garden). The upper floor has steep stairs. The garden surface is compacted earth and gravel. Contact +46 470 414 10 for specific assistance.
Five minutes away is Smålands Museum (regional history) and Växjö Cathedral. Linnaeus Park offers botanical routes. A 10-minute drive away: the glass museum Kingdom of Crystal.
Wear comfortable shoes for walking in the garden. Spanish-language brochures are available at reception. If you are interested in botany, ask about the specialized tours (July-August). Download the Linnaean Sites map at visitvaxjo.se.
