The park and gardens are usually open year-round, but the shops and exhibitions have seasonal opening hours (generally from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM in summer). It is located in Järvsö, about 50 minutes by car from Hudiksvall, and you can check the exact opening hours on its official website.

Access to the park area, garden, and playground is usually free, which makes it great for a stroll. However, some specific exhibitions, events, or the World Heritage Visitor Center may have a separate admission fee that varies by season.

To enjoy the full experience, including the gardens, craft shops, and a coffee break, we recommend setting aside 2 to 3 hours. If you plan to eat there or attend a cultural event, ideally you should allow half a day.

Stenegården is an iconic example of a mid-19th-century Hälsingland farm, built by the pharmacist Julius Brun. Today it serves as a vibrant cultural center that preserves the region’s traditions and acts as a gateway to the Decorated Farmhouses of Hälsingland, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Summer (June to August) is ideal for seeing the gardens in full bloom and enjoying all the shops while they are open. However, its Christmas market in winter is one of the most atmospheric and popular in the Hälsingland region.

The gardens and main park areas are accessible via compact gravel paths, and adapted restrooms are available. However, please note that some older historic buildings may have high steps or thresholds that make wheelchair access indoors more difficult.

Right next door is Järvzoo, an amazing Nordic wildlife park where you walk along wooden boardwalks through the forest. You are also very close to the slopes of Järvsöbacken if you visit in winter.

Don’t leave without trying Swedish fika at the on-site bakery or a traditional meal at the Stenegården restaurant. The ingredients are usually local and organic; it is the perfect place to relax and taste the authentic flavors of Hälsingland.
