Templo católico histórico en Zarza de Granadilla que combina elementos arquitectónicos tradicionales con valiosas obras de arte sacro, centro espiritual de la comunidad durante siglos.
The church is usually open for worship and visits at varying times. We recommend contacting the town hall to confirm (+34 927 471 001) or checking the Extremadura Tourism website. It generally opens in the mornings and again in the afternoon, except during the midday break (2:00 PM-5:00 PM).
Admission is free, although voluntary donations for maintenance are appreciated. If you would like to contribute, there is a donation box next to the main door.
A full visit takes about 30 minutes. Be sure not to miss the Baroque altarpiece, the 15th-century wall paintings, and the Mudéjar-Gothic architectural features.
Built between the 14th and 16th centuries, it is a unique example of stylistic transition in Extremadura, with Mudéjar elements in the tower and a Gothic chancel. Its main altarpiece is listed as a Site of Cultural Interest.
We recommend the early morning hours (10:00 AM-1:30 PM) or late afternoon in summer (5:30 PM-8:00 PM). In autumn, you will enjoy the golden light that highlights its granite ashlar facade.
The main entrance is step-free, but the interior has historic uneven levels. Contact the town hall in advance (+34 927 471 001) to request assistance if necessary.
Very close by you will find: the Ambroz Valley (20 minutes by car), Granadilla Castle (15 minutes), and the thermal baths of Baños de Montemayor (25 minutes). More information at Ambroz Valley.
1) Check opening hours in advance 2) Dress respectfully (it is an active place of worship) 3) Take the opportunity to try local products such as Gata-Hurdes PDO olive oil. See tourist brochures at the town hall.
