Discover Mount Teide in Tenerife. A unique experience to learn about its history and significance.
Teide National Park is open 24 hours a day, every day of the year, with no time restrictions for park access. However, the Teide Cable Car has specific opening hours and may be affected by weather conditions. I recommend checking its official website for updated information: Teide Cable Car Timetable.
Access to Teide National Park is completely free; there is no entrance fee. However, using the Teide Cable Car does have a cost. It is highly recommended to buy tickets in advance, especially to avoid queues. You can purchase them here: Teide Cable Car Tickets.
For a full visit, I recommend setting aside between 4 and 6 hours. This will allow you to enjoy the scenery, do a short trail, and, if you wish, take the cable car up near the summit. If you plan to go hiking, you will need more time.
Teide is not only the highest mountain in Spain, but also an active volcano and a fundamental element in Guanche mythology, considered a sacred dwelling place. Its geological formation is astonishing, and it has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its scientific and scenic value.
The best time is usually spring or autumn, when temperatures are milder and there are fewer people. If you want to avoid crowds, I suggest going early in the morning or late in the afternoon. Sunsets and sunrises from Teide are spectacular and less busy.
The Portillo Visitor Centre and its surroundings are accessible. The Teide Cable Car is also accessible for people with reduced mobility, offering adapted wheelchairs to go up to the intermediate station. However, the summit trails have uneven terrain and are not suitable for wheelchairs. For more details, see: Accessibility at Teide.
Near Teide, you should not miss Roques de García, an iconic rock formation. You can also visit the Teide Observatory, with guided tours available, or explore the Orotava Valley with its picturesque villages. The area is full of incredible viewpoints.
Absolutely. Bring warm clothing even in summer, as the temperature at the summit changes a lot. Use sunscreen, sunglasses, and a cap. Do not forget to bring water and something to eat. And most importantly, if you are going up to the peak, remember that you need a permit requested in advance: Permit to Climb Teide Peak.
